The Five Plus campaign is part of a Provincial Breast Health Strategy, which unites government, health authorities and community partners to improve breast cancer screening, diagnosis and prevention across BC.
An important element of this strategy is to promote public awareness around the steps women can take to reduce their risk of breast cancer throughout their lives.
Health professionals play a key role in educating women and supporting them to take positive steps that benefit their health. In a survey of 700 BC women commissioned by the Screening Mammography Program of BC, the two top factors that respondents chose as important for motivating action were:
- A better understanding of my personal risk; and
- Advice or recommendations from my doctor or health care provider.
This section provides health professionals with resources to support their patients in breast cancer prevention, and the clinical information they need to provide care according to current provincial guidelines.
